In the Big Data domain HIT builds and offers advanced analytics solutions that leverage open source big data technologies, allowing the combination, process and analysis of heterogeneous data sources into a single platform, in order to support dynamic and real time decision making and recommendation systems.

HIT is in possession and continuously enhances an innovative and modular User Data Analytics engine based on user explicit and implicit feedback (acquiring and analysing user interaction data through various interfaces). The engine is offered through a PAAS allowing other services to be easily built on top of it and scale automatically. It is based on a modular SOA Architecture and more specifically a RESTful (Representational State Transfer) Web Service architecture providing a readily available set of interfaces that ensure easy integration and interoperability with third party systems. The core of the engine is an advanced data analytics and visualization framework that unifies traditional data warehouses and modern database systems, allowing the combination of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data in a single platform. As far as structured data is concerned, the analysis is performed with the software tools commonly used as part of advanced analytics disciplines such as predictive analytics and data mining. For semi-structured and unstructured data sources, the solution employs emerging state-of-the-art technologies currently being used in most big data analytics environments, such as NoSQL databases, Hadoop or MapReduce. These technologies form the core of an open software framework that supports the necessary processing of large data sets across clustered systems.

This software has been developed and evolved within several past national and international research projects, where the toolset was trained and thoroughly tested and evaluated on several user domains. The software has already been proven in the market since appropriately configured and customized versions have been delivered within large scale projects for prominent governmental organizations (Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, Region of Central Macedonia, Hellenic Organization of SMEs) as well as private organisations, with the aim of enhancing user experience and delivering proactive, personalized and multimodal services through alternative communication channels.

The software is now maintained and actively enhanced by HIT and the latest module integration being performed by HIT is that of modules implementing social network APIs enabling the sourcing of social network account usage/activity statistics as input data.
